October '13 Favourites

October has been a pretty uneventful month and I'm glad that it is finally November, because now I can officially start getting excited about Christmas!!

Here are my favourites from October....

Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation

This recent purchase is due to a small sample offering in last month's Glamour magazine. I trialled it for 2 days and purchased it a few days later. Impressive coverage and nice matte finish. A full review coming soon...

e.l.f Blending Eye Brush

I bought two of these in my latest e.l.f haul (read here) and I have been using them pretty much daily ever since. I was pretty disappointed with the crease brushes as they are constantly shedding but I haven't had a single problem with the Blending Eye Brushes. They are perfect for blending out the edges of crease work, a necessary step in my current eyeshadow addiction focused makeup routine. For £1.50 each you really can't go wrong and I have even been favouring them over my No.7 and Coastal Scents alternatives (see here).

MAC Eyeshadow in Sumptuous Olive

I'm sure this one won't be a surprise. Every time I purchase a new MAC Eyeshadow it becomes a monthly favourite and I wear it non-stop for about two weeks. Sumptuous Olive is a gorgeous khaki/olive green with gold shimmer. I have been wearing it mostly with Espresso Eyeshadow (bottom right in picture above) blended in to the crease. I am so impressed with every MAC eyeshadow I have purchased so far and with the amount I wear them I think they will be worth the money they cost.

e.l.f Eyelid Primer

When I was running out of my Urban Decay Primer Potion I started looking for a cheaper alternative and came across the e.l.f Eyelid Primer for £1.50. I wasn't expecting it to be quite as good but it is a perfect substitution. Eyeshadows last from when I apply them in the morning to when I take my makeup off at bed time. No fading and no creasing. (This may be a HG product gals!)

Radox Muscle Therapy Bubble Bath

For those that don't know, I work in retail, and we recently had a big shop move which meant a lot of heavy lifting and being on my feet all day. Pretty knackering! Everyday when I have got home I have just collapsed on the sofa and haven't wanted to move, but I have treated myself to a nice hot bubble bath each evening with this Radox Muscle Therapy Black Pepper and Ginseng Bubble Bath and have felt so much better after. Of course this could just be the simple act of relaxing in a hot bath but the bubble bath smells lovely and it has been a nice treat.

The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey

"Alaska, the 1920s. Jack and Mabel have staked everything on a fresh start in a remote homestead, but the wilderness is a stark place, and Mabel is haunted by the baby she lost many years before. When a little girl appears mysteriously on their land, each is filled with wonder, but also foreboding: is she what she seems, and can they find room in their hearts for her?"

I thought this book would be a perfect read to get me in the winter/Christmas spirit nice and early and it certainly has done the job. Based in the harsh winters of the Alaskan wilderness in the early 1900s, the story is based on an old Russian fairytale. It's a slow moving and quiet story but one that really stays with you. Days after I finished it I am still thinking about the story and the characters and I already know that I will read it again in a few years. It is very beautifully written and you really get a sense of the cold and snowy landscape of Alaska. It may not be a book for those that like fast paced stories with lots of drama and action, instead the perfect words to describe The Snow Child would be 'charming' and 'heartbreaking', a perfect book for the winter seasons.
