Battle of the Micellar Solutions - Bioderma vs. L'oreal

I started using the 'must have' Bioderma Sensibio H20 Micelle Solution at the beginning of June. I bought a 250ml bottle and after 2 and half months it has only just starting to run out, and that's after using it everyday, twice a day.

I have really enjoyed using it to take my makeup off at the end of the day and to cleanse my face before putting my makeup on first thing in the morning. I simply apply some to a cotton pad and wipe it over my face. To remove eye makeup it is better to hold the pad over the eyes for a few seconds which dissolves the makeup and makes it easier to wipe away.

The Bioderma Sensibio H20 Micelle Solution is perfect for sensitive skin (which mine is) and it hasn't irritated my skin at all (quite rare with skin care products for me). It feels very gentle but also refreshing on the skin, just like water. I started using it at the beginning of the summer so I can't say for sure if the improvement in my dry skin is due to this product or just the warmer weather but I do think that it has helped.

The 250ml bottle cost me £9.99 from Zest Pharmacy in London and considering that it has lasted me almost 3 months this really isn't that bad. But when I saw the cheaper L'oreal Skin Perfection 3-in-1 Purifying Micellar Solution which is under £5 for 200ml I thought it was worth testing. Especially since it is so easy to get hold of (from most Boots and Superdrug stores).

I have been trying the L'oreal one for a couple of weeks now and there really isn't a lot of difference! My skin feels the same after using both products and I have found that they both do a very good job at removing my makeup, including waterproof mascara.

One of the main differences is the packaging, it is much easier to control how much product you use with the Bioderma bottle, whereas I often accidentally overdo it with the L'oreal bottle and it has ended up in my sink/on my floor on a couple of occasions! For this reason, I seem to be getting through this bottle much quicker.

I have also found that the L'oreal Micellar Solution has stung my eyes a couple of times when trying to take off my eye makeup which was a bit painful, but this was when there was way too much product on the cotton pad (again due to the rubbish packaging). I have not had this problem at all with the Bioderma one.

I think I will continue to use the L'oreal one because of the price and availability and see how I get one with it as there really doesn't seem to be much difference. I just need to remember to hold the cotton pad directly over the hole in the bottle to block too much product from pouring out. If it does continue to irritate my eyes however, I will be going back to Bioderma as I think that it is still worth the extra money.

When purchasing 250ml, the Bioderma works out at around £0.04 per ml and the L'oreal one works out at £0.025 per ml (based on the RRP of £4.99 but it is currently on offer in both Boots and Superdrug for less).

Have you tried Bioderma Sensibio H20 Micelle Solution or L'oreal Skin Perfection 3-in-1 Purifying Micellar Solution? Which one do you prefer? Let me know by commenting below....

  1. A really good review- not one sided at all! I love how you mentioned both good and bad things (i.e. stinging in the eyes!) That's a great quality for a review, so well done! x x x

    1. Thank you :) I think it is important to be entirely honest on all the pros and cons of each product.

  2. I totally agree with this, they are both really good. I would probably choose the Bioderma over the L'oreal but only because the L'oreal has more of a silky texture rather than Bioderma's natural feeling texture. And thank you for letting us know where I can pick Bioderma up in London, just moved here so it's good to know where I can get things from :)

    Thanks

    1. Bioderma is becoming more readily available. I think it can also be purchased on Amazon but I am hesitant to order it that way just in case it is a fake product. If you can easily get to Zest Pharmacy in London it is worth it, they have a great selection of products on sale :)
