Battle of the Maybelline Mascaras - The Falsies vs. The Rocket

When it comes to mascara Maybelline know what they are doing! I absolutely swear by Maybelline mascaras and don't even bother looking at other brands. If my regular Maybelline mascara isn't available  I just pick up one of their other offerings and trust that it will be exactly what I am looking for. They always seems to find a great balance between volume and length. I must state of course that I only buy the waterproof ones and the only time I have been disappointed by a Maybelline mascara was when I accidentally bought the non-waterproof version.

I was a Maybelline Colossal Volum' Express Waterproof girl until I went to pick up a new one and it was sold out. So instead I picked up the Maybelline The Falsies Volum' Express Waterproof and have stuck with it ever since. It has the perfect wand, gives great length, impressive volume, holds a curl and wont budge even during the saddest movies of all time (The Notebook anyone?!)

Annoyingly when I went to pick up a new one I accidentally picked up the non-waterproof The Falsies which was the disappointing mascara mentioned above. Again, it had great length, impressive volume but was simply pants at holding a curl. So I went back to Boots but the waterproof one had sold out.

Desperate for a new mascara I thought I would give one of their newer ones a try and was torn between The Rocket Volum' Express Waterproof and The Mega Plush Volum' Express Waterproof. I chose The Rocket because of a few positive reviews I had read on other blogs.

When I opened The Rocket I was disappointed immediately as I don't usually like these kind of mascara wands and find that they don't work that well for me but I gave it a try anyway and was actually pleasantly surprised. It was much better than I thought it would be. Like The Falsies, I liked the length, volume and curl of the mascara.

There were however, a couple of things I didn't like. The volume could have been a bit better and the wand did not separate my lashes as much as The Falsies. I had to work with it a lot more to get the desired look and even then it wasn't exactly how I wanted it to be. The other problem is how freaking difficult it is to get off! I have never had trouble removing waterproof mascara before but this took some elbow grease, even with some Bioderma

Maybelline's Volum' Express The Rocket

Overall, The Falsies has a much nicer wand that separates lashes more, giving better volume than The Rocket. The Falsies is also much easier to remove. Don't get me wrong, The Rocket is still a very good mascara and better than a lot of mascaras I have tried from other brands and I will use it up, but I will be re-purchasing The Falsies when it's gone.

Does anyone remember Maybelline's Full and Soft Mascara? I wonder if you can still buy that anywhere, that was a my favourite mascara back in the day! I would quite like to try the Colossal one again to compare it to The Falsies and The Mega Plush looks quite intriguing...

What are you favourite mascaras? Are you Maybelline masacara mad like me? Let me know by commenting below.....

EDIT - I'll try to remember to take a photo of The Falsies when I get around to picking up a new one so that I can show a comparison of the two.

  1. The Rocket is actually very easy for me to remove!! I just let warm water from the shower run down my face and gently brush my finger from top to bottom and it easily slides off!

  2. Full and Soft is still readily available, it's the one I keep going back to after I stray and try something new.
