Disappointing Products

I wanted to do a Disappointing Products post as I think they can be really useful if you are considering buying one of the items. Blog posts are mostly positive but it can be just as helpful to read a negative review. The following products were disappointing to me as they were not what I was personally expecting or they didn't work with my skin type so it doesn't mean that they will be disappointing for everyone else. These are the products I didn't like or wasn't entirely happy with....

Clinique Anti-Blemish Solutions
I bought the Clinique Anti-Blemish Foam Wash and Clarifying Lotion about two months before my wedding as my skin was pretty bad and I was desperate to clear it up before the big day. This stuff isn't cheap at around £17 per bottle! I have already done a post on these products which you can read here,  but to cut a long story short, my skin reacted badly and just got worse. I had to stop using them a few weeks before the wedding in the hope that my skin would recover in time but it didn't really. As mentioned in my previous post it is possible that my skin was purging before it would get better but I didn't leave enough time before the wedding before I started a new skincare routine.

Rimmel Lasting Finish Matte Lipstick by Kate Moss
I had heard really good things about the Kate Moss for Rimmel Lipsticks so I bought the shade 101. The lipstick is a much brighter cool toned pink on the lips  than it looks in the bullet. The colour was completely wrong for my complexion but the reason this has made my disappointing products list is just how drying it was. It took quite a while for my lips to recover from this one and lots of carmex. Perhaps my lips just aren't in good enough condition to be able to pull these lipsticks off and I have been hesitant to try any matte formulations since.

Bourjois Smoky Eyes Trio Eyeshadow - Rose Vintage 05
I really loved the look of these colours and was excited to try out a new look with them but I found it really difficult to get any colour out of them. It was hard to pick up any product with a brush and the product it did pick up wasn't very pigmented. I was really disappointed with this one and had to give up with it in the end.

Soap and Glory Butter Yourself Super Rich Smoothing Body Cream
This body cream was part of a recent special offer in Boots where you spend £10 and you get a full size body cream free. I bought the Breakfast Scrub which I love (see this post) and the Hand Food which I am a little bit addicted to so was pretty chuffed to get a full sized freebie. The texture is really nice and it does leave your skin feeling moisturised but I just can't stand the smell. It is described as fruity and I'm not sure what it is that I don't like but it just makes me feel a bit ill. I will have to see if any of my friends like it because I have hardly used any of it.

Benefit's Some Kind-A Gorgeous Lite Foundation
I really wanted to like this foundation. The colour is great and it felt nice when I swatched it, so I asked for it for my birthday from the Hubby. It is a cream to powder foundation and the coverage looks pretty good. Although it feels quite greasy when you apply it, it actually clings to every dry patch on my skin and I think it makes them worse. This would be much better for someone with an oily complexion, mine is just too dry. I have held on to it though as I thought my skin type may change a little in the summer. We'll just have to wait and see.

  1. I agree with you on so many levels here! I have used the Clinque Anti Blemish range before and I found it was so strong it made my skin 10x worse :( it just seemed to strip out any moisture in my skin and make it red and blotchy then it didn't shift any spots either! I have also used the Benefit foundation and found that even though I had oily skin it didn't work well for me it just slipped off :(

  2. It's hard to believe that a product that is aimed at people who obviously already suffer with skin problems can be so harsh and make it even worse! That is the perfect word for it though, it does completely 'strip' the skin. I really don't think I'll bother trying it again. x
