The London Beauty Day Trip

I only live about a 45 minute train ride away from London but hardly ever venture in to the big city, mainly due to the cost of a travelcard nowadays plus any activities you do for the day, but I can also feel a little overwhelmed by crowds sometimes. I'll just admit it, I am a small town girl at heart.

But, as soon as I saw Vivianna's London's Beauty Landmarks post I knew it was time to pack up my camera and my young persons railcard for a day of shopping, with beautiful beauty products as my inevitable reward.

All the stores seemed to be in a cluster around Oxford Street/Regent Street and they included & Other Stories, Liberty and Space NK. With the map saved on my Kindle Fire, a list of products I wanted to try out and my bank card practically jumping out of my purse screaming 'use me use me!' I met one of my bestest friends at Oxford Circus to start our mission. Just a note, Oxford Circus is NOT a good place to meet someone! Who knew there would be about 5 different exits for Regent Street!

First stop was & Other Stories on Regent Street, a lovely store with some handbags to die for, a good collection of womenswear and a surprisingly large beauty section. We swatched away and were tempted by a number of different products, including the Essie Button recommended Mary-Lou Maniser by The Balm (see her post here). But none of the items were on my list and it was only our first stop of the day so we moved on empty-handed.

Next up, Liberty. I have never been to Liberty before but it is pretty amazing! We must have spent a good couple of hours exploring all six floors. It is a bit like Harrods and they sell everything from furniture to shoes, handbags to gifts, makeup to stationary and even have a large craft section and a chocolate shop. The Beauty Hall was a great mix of so-expensive-don't-even-look-at-it brands and slightly (ever so slightly) less expensive higher end brands such as Laura Mercier, Bobbi Brown and Nars.

The Nars Sheer Glow Foundation was the first item on my list to try so the helpful (and very eager) sales assistant helped to colour match me to shade Mont Blanc, one of the closest shades I have ever found actually and I very happily made my first purchase. She even convinced me to get a Liberty points card which I am sure I will never use but it just looks so posh!

We had a lot of fun trying the testers at the Bumble & Bumble display and Hannah took a particular liking to their cult buy the Bumble & Bumble Surf Spray.

After Liberty we headed to Space NK, my first visit to this store and we absolutely loved it. Smaller and quieter than I expected but far less intimidating than Liberty and after an initial 'can I help you?' the sales assistants were happy to leave us to swatch away to our hearts content. I spent most of my time again at Nars and Laura Mercier and was also impressed with the eyeshadow pencils at By Terry.

Hannah, having fallen in love with her new Surf Spray-ed hair throughout the day, purchased the Bumble & Bumble Surf Spray and a Tangle Teezer.

Our next stop was Zest Pharmacy across the road. A strange shop with a mix of gifty-novelty items and a pharmacy. I'm afraid I couldn't resist the pink-topped bottles of the 'must have' Bioderma staring at me from the shelves. After hearing SO much about the stuff I just had to see if it was worth the hype. Review coming soon.

Before we headed home we popped in to Debenhams on Oxford Street and after being very impressed with the  results of the Naked Palette at my wedding Hannah made a beeline for the Urban Decay counter and faced the same dilemma....1 or 2? But settled for the original palette.

We had such a fantastic day and I loved finally being able to swatch all those lovely products that evade me in Essex. I didn't buy as much as I thought I would but isn't that always the way when you tell yourself that you're allowed to buy things? Anyway, keep a look out for my upcoming Nars Sheer Glow and Bioderma reviews and if you haven't yet paid a visit to these beauty havens I highly recommend a day trip based on Vivianna's beauty landmark map.
