Getting Summer Ready For Fair Skin - Tanning

When your legs are as pastey and white as mine a lot of preparation is needed before you can present your pins to the world. I like being pale and am never too bothered about tanning, partly because I think pale skin can look fresh and youthful and partly because I can't actually tan. I am either casper white or tomato red so I slap on the factor 30 as soon as the sun pops out, even a 50 if I am abroad.

Although I don't mind being fair skinned my legs can look a little scary because they so rarely see daylight and a little fake tanning is a necessity. Proper fake tan products do not work well on my pale skin and just look really orange, not a look I would like to go for! Even if I am from Essex! Instead I like to use a gradual tanner moisturiser as it allows me the control to build up the colour slowly and moisturise at the same time.

Before I apply the tanning moisturiser I first exfoliate my legs to buff away any dry skin patches. I start with a body brush which is from Sanctuary and I gently brush my legs from my ankles in upward strokes so that I am brushing with the blood flow to my heart. This is meant to help with circulation which as a sufferer of Raynauds Syndrome (poor circulation) is also a bonus.

In the shower I then use the Soap & Glory Breakfast Scrub which is a great exfoliator and smells delicious, it has a slight maple scent which reminds me of pancakes! It is described as a body exfoliator with organic cupuacu bio scrubs, bananas, almond and honey extracts.Yummy!

After my shower I towel dry and then apply the Dove Summer Glow Nourishing Lotion for fair to medium skin. This is my favourite gradual tanning product as the others that I have tried are a bit too orange or just smell awful. This one does still have quite a strong smell though so I like to use it in the evening, let it work its magic overnight, and shower again in the morning so that my work colleagues don't have to put up with the tanning smell all day!

The Dove Summer Glow Nourishing Lotion is really easy to apply as it is a moisturiser and leaves a really natural colour on pale skin. After one application my legs just look a normal colour as opposed to scarily white which I love and the colour can be built up with further applications until you get the shade you desire.

I love this product and it just gives me so much more confidence to bare my legs and wear a dress. It's a summer must for me!

  1. I live in Malta so can't really avoid tanning. I like the pale look but I do also love being tanned, but my legs just never change colour, and traditional fake tan makes me look patchy and orange! Something like a natural moisturising gradual tanner would definitely be perfect! xx
