What's in my makeup bag?...

My daily makeup routine doesn't change very often. A lot of the products that I use daily are products that I have been using for months if not years. These are slowly changing however as I get more interested in makeup and try new things.

For an 'everyday face' or a 'work face' I like to keep it pretty basic, mainly foundation, concealer, mascara, eyeliner and blusher. If I am having a particularly bad skin day sometimes I like to make a bit more of an effort and add a primer or some lipstick to make myself feel a little better.

I have noticed that the more I have been reading about and experimenting with makeup, the earlier I have had to get up in the morning to allow myself enough time to get ready! I won't tell you how long it takes me (shameful!), but doing my makeup is actually something I really enjoy doing everyday. It's almost therapeutic and I just switch off whilst I am concentrating on perfecting my everyday winged liner or buffing in my foundation.

So the daily face begins with a quick moisturise using Simple's Kind To Skin Hydrating Light Mosituriser which I like because, as the name suggests, it is light yet hydrating and dries pretty quickly. My everyday foundation is usually Maybelline's Super Stay 24 Hour Foundation in Light Beige which is the best colour match I have found for my skin so far. I would say it was medium coverage so I do need a little concealer on top and the staying power, although perhaps not 24 hours, is fairly good. If my skin is still feeling a bit dry I sometimes mix this foundation with a pump of Bourjois' Healthy Mix Serum Gel Foundation in 51, which is too yellow toned for my face when used on it's own but I like the consistency.

For under the eyes I use the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer in Fair 1 which is very light! Too light for blemishes but about right for hiding dark circles. For blemishes I am currently using the No.7 Stay Perfect Blemish Cover Concealer but it is quite drying and can look a little cakey so I am currently on the hunt for something better, but in the meantime it will have to do.

With my base done, I then move on to eyes. I begin by curling my eyelashes with some very basic and cheap eyelash curlers from Boots that have served me well. I then add a few coats of Maybelline's The Falsies Volum' Express Waterproof Mascara. I have used Maybelline mascaras for as long as I can remember as they always seem to get the balance right with both lengthening and thickening. I keep meaning to give a couple of other brands a try but always go back to Maybelline. Actually now that I look at my makeup bag I use quite a few Maybelline products daily.

Once I have finished the mascara I use the Maybelline Master Precise Liquid Eyeliner along the top of my lashes and I just don't feel fit for public view if I don't wing it out slightly in the outer corners. With the MUA 3-in-1 Extreme Contour Pen Eyeliner in Brunette which is actually more of a pencil I slightly define the lower lashes.
My everyday makeup look

Next up are eyebrows for which I am currently using the Maybelline Master Shape Brow Pencil which I like as it has quite a waxy texture which helps to keep the brows in place but it doesn't have great staying power and it isn't the perfect colour for me. I am tempted to invest in a Clinique brow pencil instead. I recently tried the Avon Glimmerstick for eyebrows which I got free with Marie Claire magazine and it gives fantastic definition to the brows but again is just the wrong colour for me.

To finish off the look I simply add a little No.7 Natural Cream Blush in Romantic using the Real Techniques Stippling Brush. This is a great formula and a lovely natural pink colour which just gives a nice healthy glow.

As I said, if I am in the need of an additional pick-me-up I will use a couple of extras, one of them being the Laura Mercier Radiance Foundation Primer before my foundation. This is very gold toned and slightly shimmery which tends to exaggerate blemishes on my skin so I normally use it just on the cheeks to add a glow and a slight highlight which 'radiates' through the foundation and blusher. If I fancy a little lipstick my current favourite is the Revlon Colorstay Ultimate Suede Lipstick in Socialite which is a lovely pink almost a 'my lips but better' colour. It can however, be a little drying so I tend to top it up with a bit of Carmex on top.

As you can see from above, my everyday look is, with the exception of the Laura Mercier primer, compiled of all high-street/drugstore buys. I am not against using high-end products everyday but I just can't afford a lot of them and I tend to use the ones I do have for more special occasions.

Is your everyday face made up of mainly high-street or high-end products? Do you use any of the above? Let me know by commenting below...
