The Perfect Emergency Handbag Makeup Kit

If you have a handbag as big as mine or as full of rubbish as mine is you will understand that it is important to keep the contents down to the essentials and as compact as possible. It's finding the balance between what you need, what you might need and what won't break your back.

My bag already holds my purse, phone, notebook, kindle fire, umbrella, keys, a book and a load of random bits I probably don't need, such as some disposable hand-warmers left over from winter (my saviours this year!), a Thomas Cook travel sickness bag that I stole from a plane a couple of years a go (I don't know why either), hand wipes, body wipes, painkillers...I'm basically ready for whatever life throws at me.

I will be clearing a lot of this out but I have also decided to clear out my handbag makeup kit to the mere essentials. Products that can multi-task or take me from day to evening quickly and effortlessly  or just to help freshen me up a little when the situation calls for it.

As I am yet to find a concealer that lasts all day, and because I go through periods of bad skin, a concealer is a must! The one going in my kit is the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer in shade 1 as it also does a great job of brightening my under eye area if I am looking a little tired or run down.

If I am going out for an evening I like to give my eyes a little oomph! The easiest way to do this is to add a couple of extra layers of mascara. My Clinique mini High Impact Mascara is a perfect addition to my bag due to it's compact size and layering abilities.

Another excellent addition is the Maybelline Colour Tattoo 24hr Cream Gel Shadow in On and On Bronze as a quick smear of this over my eyelids using my finger quickly adds impact to my eye area for an evening out and there's no need for brushes!

A waxy brow pencil is a must to keep those unruly eyebrows tamed and I have the Maybelline Master Shape Brow Pencil in Brunette. A perfect multi-tasking product is the Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge in Pale Pink as this can add a gorgeous colour to the cheeks and lips. A very quick way to change your look on the go, and with a mirror in the lid there's no need to carry a separate one.

If I don't fancy the Pot Rouge for the lips I carry three other lip products. My curent favourite lipstick Revlon's ColorStay Ultimate Suede in Socialite, a Revlon Lip Butter in Pink Truffle for a colour-hydration combo option and a pot of Carmex to prevent chapped lips.

The last thing I like to carry around in my makeup kit is a perfume atomiser to top up my fragrance during the day and I am currently carrying a 10ml bottle of Next's Eau Nude, and I keep all these items in a cute floral makeup bag from Boots.

There are a few other bits I like to carry in my handbag that won't fit in my makeup kit. The first is essential during the spring/summer months, particularly because of my pale skin and that's a mini tube of sun cream. My current compact sun cream of choice is Piz Buins Allergy Face Cream in SPF30. The other items are Soap and Glory's Hand Food moisturiser and Carex's Aloe Vera Hand Sanitiser Gel, a necessity when your immune system is as rubbish as mine.

Hmm...this is still quite a lot of stuff to carry...I don't need an umbrella right? How often does it actually rain in England?.....Err.....
