Fragrances Part Two - The Budget Buy

Part One of my fragrances post explored my history with perfume, to cut a long story short I used the same perfume, Hugo Deep Red, for almost ten years and decided it was time to expand my collection and give myself a bit of choice each morning. The brand I then fell in love with was Ghost and have now tried three of their perfumes, with two of them still in my collection. You can read all about it here.

Part Two however, will cover my budget fragrance find (and if you thought the Ghost perfumes were reasonably priced you are in for a shocker!). And so without further adieu the brand that has completely blown me away is....NEXT. Who would have thought it?! I like their clothes and shoes and am in love with their homewares but who would of thought of shopping for perfume there?!

It's silly that I didn't try them sooner really. I tried the men's fragrances a couple of Christmases a go in an attempt to introduce my husband in to wearing one. I didn't want to pay a lot as he wasn't that enthusiastic about the idea (he doesn't smell bad or anything btw!) and I knew that Next often did dupes for high-end fragrances so it seemed like a good option. The men's fragrances are lovely and I bought him one called Terrain which they don't actually do anymore. I'm not sure if it was a dupe but the hubby loved it.

So a couple of weeks ago I was in the shopping mood but my bank balance wasn't happy about it. I had a couple of vouchers to spend in the homewares department of Next and as I was looking around I spotted the fragrances and curiousity got the better of me.

I was so impressed by them. I was expecting them to smell a bit cheap, nothing special with plain packaging, but I was just so wrong. They are amazing and so reasonably priced! One of the fragrances I was really impressed with was one called Adore and it was only £6.50 for 30ml!!! Yes £6.50! I thought maybe they were a bit too good to be true and didn't want to spend lots of money buying a bottle of each fragrance so I settled for the 30ml bottle of Adore and thought I would also give their fragrance Eau Nude a go at only £4 for a mini bottle of 10ml. £10.50 for 40ml of perfume and two gorgeous scents, you just can't go wrong.

A number of times I have bought a perfume which I loved in the shop, only to get home and decide that I hate it or it just doesn't smell right on me (...er?) for example J.Lo Glow when I was about 16 years old. I had a feeling the same might happen with these when I got them home and tried them properly, but if anything I loved them more.

I did a bit of research on them and apparently Eau Nude is a dupe for Chanel's Coco Mademoiselle (approx £50 for 35ml). I smelt this fragrance a few days after the Next purchase and they do smell very similar. Next describe it as "an enticing blend of lush red fruits, voluptuous florals, powdery musks and sumptuous vanilla."

I can't find any reference to whether Adore is a dupe, possibly for Dior's J'adore? I really couldn't say as I haven't had a chance to compare them. Next describe Adore as "a glamorous and sophisticated fragrance with stunning florals and golden amber accords."

One review I read of their Diamonds perfume suggested that it may be a dupe of Paco Rabanne's Lady Million so if you are a fan of that fragrance maybe give this one a try.

Some will argue that they aren't as good as the originals and yes the scent may not last quite as long but for £6.50 for 30ml there really isn't any competition in my eyes and at that price I'd rather keep some in an atomiser in my handbag to top up during the day if need be.

I recently returned to Next and, because I have a habit of over-doing it when I find a new product I like, I bought a full sized bottle of Eau Nude (100ml for £12!) and a duo set of their fragrance Paradise with a 30ml bottle and a 10ml atomiser (£8 for both). What a perfect set! Next describe Paradise as a light fruity fragrance with white florals and green notes and it is perfect for spring and summer.

My complete fragrance collection

So if you're looking to expand your perfume collection or to just try some new scents without the risk of wasting lots of money I would highly recommend giving Next a try.
